Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Obsidian (Lux #1)
by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Goodreads Author)

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

My Thoughts:
Amazing! Wow! I’m dying for the next book! I devoured this book, and it was as yummy as it was intense! I haven’t found a series stalk-worthy since Twilight and Vampire Academy, but this is it! I loved Daemon and Kat’s tug-a-war relationship. The conversations were witty and intense. I laughed out loud most of the book and was tensely griping my Kindle the rest of the time. I am green with envy at Armentrout’s amazing writing skills. I loved how Armentrout blended the plot and the characters. And what amazing characters they are! Okay, so I can’t say enough about this book, but a huge thank you to my friend for insisting I buy this one. It is going on my shelf to read over and over again *sigh*
Note: Rating is PG-13 and there is swearing. Five Plus stars!!

Time Mends by Tammy Blackwell

by Tammy Blackwell (Goodreads Author)

After a tragic accident leaves her battered, heartbroken, and alone, Scout Donovan would rather hide in dreams than face reality. But things are changing quickly in Scout's life. Soon she's pulled back into the world of Shifters and Seers, with her best friend's fate depending on Scout's ability to protect her. Can Scout pull it together in time to save Talley, or is the past too much to overcome?

My Thoughts:
Wow! She nailed this one! I really loved all the banter and witty comments. I loved the plot line and the gray wolf!! The ending had me wishing for the next one! (*spoiler* Even though I liked Alex and was really sad he died, I have to admit I was rooting for Liam from the first time we met him in book one).
I like the twists and that Scout finds out more about herself. Blackwell also did a great job with realistic emotions. And let me just say that the Alpha Pack female needs to go down. Lol. It was full of tension and growth for the characters. Loved it!
Note: I rate this PG-13. Five stars. Enjoy!

Destiny Binds by Tammy Blackwell

by Tammy Blackwell (Goodreads Author)

Scout Donovan is a girl who believes in rules, logic, and her lifelong love of Charlie Hagan. Alex Cole believes in destiny, magic, and Scout. When Alex introduces Scout to the world of Shifters, men who change into wolves or coyotes during the full moon and Seers, women who can see your most private thoughts and emotions with a mere touch, the knowledge changes everything and everyone Scout thought she knew.

My Thoughts:
I thought Scout was really spunky and had a personality all her own. Really, I loved all the characters. The whole love triangle was believable, but I have to say that Liam was always in the back of my mind. Alex was just a sweetie, and Charlie was caring. Loved the pack, too.

*Spoiler* After this point.

I cried at the end! I was like, “This is not okay.” But it was also the best scene of the whole book! So of course I had to have the next one so I could stop crying...lol. And it took me chapters into the next book to stop crying (the people at the gym must have thought I was crazy—me walking on the treadmill and tears rolling down my cheeks!). So good!
I do wish the author had taken more time with edits and added tension in the middle. It would have made a great book, amazing!
Note: I rate this PG-13. It was a fun romance with high stakes. Three stars. Enjoy!

Mortal Defiance by Nichole Chase

Mortal Defiance (Dark Betrayal Trilogy, Book 2)
by Nichole Chase (Goodreads Author)

One short week turned Ree McKenna’s life upside down. Not only does she have the weight of the world on her shoulders, but she still has to juggle homework, a job, and a curfew. While Ree tries to find her footing amidst the chaos, the Dark Ones and their champion are busy hunting down any humans that have a touch of the gods running through their veins. Allies have turned into foes, and enemies have become stronger.

The world is growing darker, but the passion between Ree and two irresistible guys blazes hotter. Romantic ties from a past life will threaten to break Ree away from the love of her life and will cloud her judgment. In order to follow her heart, Ree will break rules put in place by the gods, risking her life and the lives of her friends in an act of Mortal Defiance.

My Thoughts:
I loved how this book kept the tension going. It was great. There was action with the Dark Ones and there was tension with the romance. I really loved this read and the world that she has created. The love triangle was complicated even further in this book. I won’t say how, because I don’t want to spoil it, but I thought she handled it well. I have to say that the way the book ended was awesome!!! And I have my fingers crossed that one of the guys from the love triangle will get together with one of her guardians! That would make my heart happy for him.
Note: Rate this PG-13 for swearing and violence (lots of fight scenes, which were great!). I gave this book five stars.

Mortal Obligation by Nichole Chase

Mortal Obligation (Dark Betrayal Trilogy #1)

Ree will face the darkest form of betrayal before the year is out. Seventeen year old Ree McKenna has three goals: get through high school, convince her crush she is more than his best friend’s little sister, and save money for college. Fate, though, has other plans for her. After the untimely death of her older brother, Ree is haunted by dreadful nightmares and terrifying visions. To make matters worse, Ree has started to suspect that something dangerous is stalking her from the shadows. A night full of frightening surprises leaves Ree with unsettling news. Gifted by the gods with unusual powers, she must devote herself to a battle that could very well lead to not only her death, but the demise of everyone she knows and loves. After all, Ree is the only mortal standing between the Earth and utter darkness. Set in Savannah, Ga, Mortal Obligation is the first book of The Dark Betrayal Trilogy.

My thoughts:
The story started out with someone watching her but she didn’t know who. I kept reading because of it. I really wanted to find out what was stocking her, plus there was a cute guy at her table that was taking her to a concert (had to see that play out…he he.) By the second chapter that was a major reveal, and I was hooked. The middle was a bit slow, with the tension coming mainly from the love triangle. But the ending was fantastic and left me needing the next book. The love triangle was fun as well, and I have to say that I’ve gone and fallen for both of them.  (P.S. I have read the next book in this series and I have to say that so far it is my favorite! So keep reading!)
Note: I’d rate this PG-13. There are some bloody scenes but not many and there is some swearing. I give this book four stars.
